Open Question: With NZ TV going Digital, will the $$ of Plasma and LCD Tvs fall further ??

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Admittedly, you do get a far clearer picture with these 2 types of Tvs. But these seem to cost too much. Anything over $999, is too much to pay.

What are your thoughts on this ??

Open Question: Thin vertical blue line on LCD TV?

Monday, March 31st, 2008

I bought a 47″ Philips 1080p LCD TV 3 weeks ago. On certain channels, a thin blue line appears. It mostly happens when the camera does a close up on someones face, such as an interview. It doesn’t happen on the HD channels, but it mostly happens on VH1 or ESPN. I really don’t mind it, but it drives my wife crazy.

I called my cable company because the sound was cutting in and out, and they said they sent a signal that would help. I don’t know if it was coincidence, but the thin blue line went away. It came back a week later. Could it be the TV or the cable service? Please help. Thanks again.

Open Question: Component Video …?

Monday, March 31st, 2008

I have an 720p/1080i upconverting Phillips DVD player and I’m using component cables to connect it to my HD LCD TV. Will the component cables transfer the video in 480p or 720p? The DVD is 480p. Are there any changes I need to make to my DVD player and/or TV to make sure I am up-converting a 480p DVD to 720p using an up-converting DVD player with component cables?

Open Question: Why is the audio on my LCD HDTV sound so bad now that I hooked up a digital DVR from Cox?

Monday, March 31st, 2008

We had great audio from the TV when there was just a digital box from Cox. Then we switched it out for a Scientific Atlantic digital DVR and most of the audio now has a weird, scratchy, background sound. Some shows/channels do not however, so I’m wondering if it has something to do with my settings?
Thanks!

Open Question: Where can I purchase HD-DVD’s at a retailer? Where is the concern for the consumer?

Monday, March 31st, 2008

I recently had to replace the DVD player in my bedroom. It was hooked up to a 42″ 1080P LCD TV. I wanted a new “standard” DVD player with a HDMI out that upconverts to 1080P. I wont pay the current price for a Blu-ray player. Plus I already own a 60G PS3. The models with the features I wanted cost 70$-80$. I ended up purchasing a nice Toshiba HD-DVD player fpr 68$, it has HDMI out, upconverts standard discs to 1080P, and has HD-DVD playback which I consider a bonus. However, I stopped in Best Buy with the hopes of picking up some HD-DVD’s for dirt cheap to find out that they completely pulled them from their shelves. I was told by a store clerk that they don’t want to carry product that’s not valuable to the customer. He then told me that Wal-mart did the same. Why aren’t these things in bargain bins, on liquidation? How does this put the consumer first? I think places like Best Buy and Wal Mart are just retaliating for what’s happened. I know I can get them online but any retailers?
